Reports and Publications

In the 2017/2018 financial year, the former Departments of the Attorney General and Corrective Services merged to become the Department of Justice. The Department produces a range of reports and publications, which included the inaugural Justice 2017/2018 annual report, available below.

Department of Justice Annual Report

The annual report provides an overview of the Department’s operations and its compliance with policy and legislation. In line with State Government policy, the report is only available online.

Critical Incident Review - Greenough Regional Prison

There was a riot at Greenough Regional Prison on July 24 2018. As a result,  the Director General of the Department of Justice Dr Adam Tomison asked Ms Jan Shuard to conduct a critical incident review of matters surrounding the riot. The resulting Shuard report was released publicly on November 28, 2018.

Equality before the Law Benchbook

The Equality before the Law Bench Book provides WA judicial officers an understanding of the range of values, cultures, lifestyles and life experiences of people from different backgrounds. It also includes information about the potential difficulties, barriers or inequities people from different backgrounds may face in relation to court proceedings.

Western Australian Prisons Drug Strategy 2018-2020

The purpose of the Western Australian Prisons Drug Strategy 2018 – 2020 is to provide a high-level blueprint for how the Department of Justice (the Department) is addressing the challenge of drugs in prisons in Western Australia. The Department’s objective is to create a drug-free custodial environment.
